ROLE DESCRIPTION:

This is a full-time hybrid role for an urban planner. The successful candidate will be responsible for various day-to-day tasks, including:

  • Assisting with the preparation of the full suite of land use planning applications (OPA, ZBA, SPA, MV etc.)
  • Drafting of due diligence planning reviews and development feasibility studies
  • Conducting analysis of land use planning policy in support of development applications and due diligence reviews
  • Developing presentation materials for and/or attending meetings (public, community consultation, committee, council etc.) and hearings (Ontario Land Tribunal, Toronto Local Appeal Body)


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Recognized degree in urban and regional planning
  • Strong understanding of the land use planning process and Provincial planning legislation
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills
  • Great analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Graphic design skills and experience assisting with/ managing development applications is an asset
  • Valid drivers license and access to a car is an asset
  • Membership in OPPI is an asset

We are very happy to announce that Brandon Stevens has joined the firm as a Partner. Brandon has diverse experience throughout the public and private sectors of the land use planning industry. Prior to joining the firm, Brandon worked for the City of Toronto’s City Planning Division, Lanterra Developments, the Ontario Land Tribunal and Toronto City Councillor Mike Colle. Brandon has experience with project management, feasibility studies, and all aspects of land development including the appeal and political processes.

We are looking for a multi-talented, ambitious and entrepreneurial individual for a 6-month contract position. Specifically, we are currently recruiting for a Planner . This is an entry-level position. We are looking for someone with: A recognized degree in Urban and Regional Planning; An understanding of planning practices, Provincial planning legislation, and the planning regulatory environment; Strong organizational and project management skills; Strong research and analytical skills; Excellent communication and report writing skills; Excellent problem-solving skills and a self-starter; The ability to work independently when required and an entrepreneurial mindset; Some graphic/design skills and experience helping to prepare visual exhibits and figures would be an asset; Experience assisting with and/or managing planning approval applications would also be an asset; A valid driver's license; and Membership in OPPI is an asset. The successful candidate can expect their duties to include (but not be limited to): Preparation of land use planning applications including Official Plan and Zoning Bylaw amendments, Site Plan approvals, Plan of Subdivision and Condominium approvals, Minor Variances and Consents; Assist with the preparation of planning analyses and reports in support of planning applications; Assist with the monitoring and management of planning approval applications on behalf of clients; Assist with the preparation of presentation materials for public meetings, Committee / Council meetings and Local Planning Appeal Tribunal hearings; Assist with the preparation of due diligence planning reviews and development feasibility studies; Policy analysis; Assist with the preparation for and/or attend at public and/or Council/Committee meetings; Assist other staff as required on various projects.
